London Marathon Preview & How To Watch

Published 24 Mar 2025

The mouth-watering return of four-time former winner and NN Running Team athlete Eliud Kipchoge will provide the highlight of the 45th anniversary edition of the TCS London Marathon on Sunday 27 April.

The Kenyan marathon great, who last appeared in the historic race in 2020, has served up many wonderful memories on the streets of the British capital, claiming his record-breaking quartet of victories in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019.

The highlight arrived in his most recent success in London, when the imperious Kipchoge cantered to victory in a blistering 2:02:37 – a time which still remains the tenth fastest time in history over the marathon distance.

Kipchoge’s NN Running Team teammate Abdi Nageeye, is all set to make his eagerly anticipated TCS London Marathon debut. The 2020 Olympic silver medallist enjoyed the best season of his career last year claiming brilliant victories in the NN Rotterdam Marathon – setting a Dutch record of 2:04:45 – and climaxing his year by triumphing in the TCS New York City Marathon.

At the age of 36, Nageeye appears stronger than ever and he will be determined to maintain his outstanding recent form in the British capital.

Ethiopian Mohamed Esa is another who will seeking a strong showing after proving he can mix it with the very best on the Abbott World Marathon Majors stage. A half marathon winner in both Poznan and Lisbon in 2023 he finished runner up in the Tokyo Marathon and last year he matched that finishing position with further podiums at the B.A.A. Boston Marathon and the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, setting a personal best of 2:04:39.

The NN Running Team will also feature two British athletes – both of whom will be keen to make a mark in their home marathon. Marc Scott, the 2022 World Indoor 3000m bronze medallist, has a strong pedigree and finished 11th in a personal best of 2:11:19 in the 2024 edition of the TCS London Marathon. His compatriot Jake Smith, who owns a marathon PB of 2:11:00, is also entered.

Abel Sikowo of Uganda will toe the line as pacemaker for the NN Running Team.

Haven Hailu, the sole NN Running Team women in action at the London Marathon, will also be confident of a prominent outing. The 26-year-old Ethiopian claimed victory in the 2022 NN Rotterdam Marathon and 2023 Osaka Marathon and last year impressed when setting a personal best of 2:19:29 to place second in the TCS Amsterdam Marathon.

Hailu has enjoyed a good preparation for her first marathon of 2025, winning the NN Egmond Half Marathon in a time of 1:08.45 in January.
