Paris 2024 Olympic Games Preview

Published 30 Jul 2024

From the track to the road, nine NN Running Team athletes will pursue medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games when the athletics events start (1 August – 11 August).

The team aims to build on their impressive haul of five medals (including two gold, two silver, and one bronze) from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. They arrive in the French capital with several strong podium contenders.

Leading the charge is Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge, who will seek to cement his legacy by aiming for an unprecedented third consecutive Olympic men’s marathon title following his victories at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. The team’s marathon efforts are further strengthened by Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands and reigning Commonwealth and world champion Victor Kiplangat of Uganda.

Joshua Cheptegei, who had a remarkable Tokyo Olympics with gold in the 5000m and silver in the 10,000m, will compete in both long-distance track events in Paris. The Ugandan athlete is a three-time world 10,000m champion and a formidable presence on the track. Joining him in the 10,000m is Daniel Mateiko of Kenya, a rising star who won the Kenyan Trials at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, with a personal best of 26:50.81.

The marathon team is rounded out by European silver half marathon medallist and Turkish record holder Kaan Kigen Özbilen, Ugandan record holder Stephen Kissa, who placed fifth at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest last summer, Maru Teferi of Israel, who secured second place at the same event, and world bronze medallist and three-time Abbott Marathon Major medallist Lonah Salpeter of Israel.

Jos Hermens (CEO of Global Sports Communication) expressed his pride in the team: "I am incredibly proud of the team we are sending to Paris. I really look forward to seeing our athletes perform, and I am hoping for fantastic results."
